Understand and use the px-system-project

In the Portworx platform, a default px-system-project is automatically created for each account (also known as a tenant), when it is created by the Account admin. This default project simplifies the initial setup and allows users to start using the Portworx platform immediately after signing up. The px-system-project is designed to make it easy for users under an account to quickly start using the Portworx platform without needing to manually create and associate infrastructure resources such as namespaces, templates, backup schedules, and backup locations. The px-system-project automatically associates all these resources created by users within that account, enabling quick deployment of data services.

Key features of px-system-project

  • Immediate use: Users can start using the platform immediately after signing up without creating a new project.
  • Implicit associations: Automatically associates all infrastructure resources created by users under the account.
  • Accessibility: Anyone with a role above project-level can access the px-system-project.
  • Indelible: Cannot be renamed or deleted by users. To delete a system project, you must delete the entire account that includes the px-system-project.

Deploy a data service using the px-system-project

This section explains how you can deploy a data service using the default px-system-project.

Prerequisites

  • Ensure you have the necessary permissions to deploy a data service.
  • Ensure a cluster is available under an account and it is in the Connected state.
  • Ensure the infrastructure resources (namespace, templates, backup schedules, and backup locations) are available in an account.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the Portworx platform with your credentials.

  2. Navigate to the Data Services Overview page.

  3. Select the Deploy Data Service button, and then select a data service from the list to deploy.

  4. In the Deploy <data -service-name> page, follow the deployment wizard, selecting the necessary configurations:

    • Enter the deployment name.
    • In the Project dropdown, select px-system-project.

The Portworx platform automatically populates the clusters and namespaces created under the account.

    • (Optional) You can select another available target cluster and namespace, if you wish to.
  5. In the Summary section, review the configuration and select the Deploy button.

By following these steps, you can quickly and efficiently deploy a data service using the px-system-project, taking advantage of the pre-configured and associated resources, thereby streamlining the deployment process.
