Create CSI-native backups

The IBM Cloud Block Storage VPC CSI Driver (vpc.block.csi.ibm.io) supports CSI volume snapshots starting with the 5.0.x driver line. Driver versions **earlier than 5.0.0 **do not support CSI snapshots. When using these versions, configure Portworx Backup to skip snapshot creation for this driver and take CSI-native backups without a local snapshot. Follow these steps:

1. In the kdmp-config ConfigMap, add CSI_DRIVER_WITHOUT_SNAPSHOT key and update its value to vpc.block.csi.ibm.io in the application cluster. For more information, see the Configure kdmp-config ConfigMap parameters.

2. In the Portworx Backup web console, navigate to Create Backup window, provide the required values, and ensure that you do not select any value for CSI snapshot class field.

3. Click Create to trigger a CSI-native backup without local snapshot.

For VPC Block CSI Driver 5.0.0 and later, which support CSI snapshots, the CSI_DRIVER_WITHOUT_SNAPSHOT setting is not required. Portworx Backup can take CSI snapshot-based backups without this setting. Follow the steps above only for driver versions earlier than 5.0.0.
