Portworx Backup Licensing

You must license the nodes of the application clusters and backup cluster after you install Portworx Backup.
Portworx Backup provides fixed-node count and usage-based licenses. The Portworx Backup licensing mechanism differs between an air-gapped and a non-airgapped environment.

Portworx Backup also enables you to remove a node from the licensing node count. For more information, see Exclude Nodes from License Node Count.

Licensing Mechanism in Portworx Backup

Portworx Backup provides the following licensing mechanisms for the application cluster nodes:

  • Fixed Node Count-Based Licensing - Works based on fixed node count. You can increase or decrease the node count only within the procured license limit.
Fixed node count-based licensing is applicable for both air-gapped and non-air-gapped environments.

For fixed node count-based licensing, you can use the following licensing options in Portworx Backup:

  • Node Usage-Based Licensing - Works based on the node usage. The node usage is determined based on the node count and node hours. You can increase or decrease the node count within the supported node count limit.
Node usage-based licensing is applicable for both air-gapped and non-air-gapped environments.

For node usage-based licensing, you can use the following licensing options in Portworx Backup:

After you apply the license, Portworx Backup displays the following licensing details on the web console:

  • Enterprise - For an enterprise license. It allows you to create, restore, schedule, and delete application backups along with their data, and to add nodes and clusters within the procured or supported node limit.
  • Trial - For a trial license. It is time-limited (30 days) with a maximum of 1000 nodes. It provides all Enterprise license functionalities.
  • Airgapped Metering - For a node usage–based license in an air-gapped environment.
