Account
An account in the PDS platform is the top-level entity created by Portworx for each customer. It serves as the parent structure under which organizations and projects are organized. Unlike user-generated entities, accounts are provisioned directly by Portworx and are not accessible for users to create or modify.
Each account is uniquely associated with its customer's roles and permissions, providing a consolidated framework for managing multiple environments, such as development, staging, and production. This hierarchical structure ensures that all organizations and projects within an account operate under a unified umbrella, streamlining administration and access control across the platform.
Additionally, the PDS platform allows users to seamlessly switch between accounts, enabling efficient navigation and workflow management when handling various projects and environments. This feature includes setting a default account for quick access, making it easier to manage complex operations across multiple contexts.
Example use case
A company called ABC Inc. buys PDS. Portworx will set up an account specifically for ABC Inc. Later, if ABC Inc.'s parent company, XYZ, also buys PDS, Portworx will create a separate account for XYZ. Now, if an employee at ABC Inc. also has access to XYZ's account, they can seamlessly switch between the two accounts on the platform.
