Configure Observability
Starting with version 2.7.0, Portworx Backup supports integrating your own monitoring stack to power the native dashboard and alerting features. This capability is primarily designed for OpenShift, Rancher, and Vanilla Kubernetes environments.
You can choose to use either your own Prometheus stack or the Portworx Backup Prometheus instance to monitor backup and restore data within the Portworx Backup web console.
Additionally, you can configure Grafana to visualize metrics collected by Prometheus. This allows you to create custom dashboards, queries, and alerts. You can also scrape and aggregate metrics from multiple Portworx Backup instances to create a unified, multi-tenant view.
The topics in this section explain how to configure your monitoring stack for effective observability of Portworx Backup clusters using Prometheus and Grafana:
-
Use your own Prometheus stack: Configure your existing Prometheus instance to monitor Portworx Backup. For more information, see Configure your own Prometheus.
-
Use Portworx backup Prometheus: Configure bundled Prometheus instance provided with Portworx Backup. For more information, see Configure Portworx Backup Prometheus.
-
Configure Grafana for Portworx Backup: Learn how to set up Grafana to visualize metrics collected by Prometheus. For more information, see Configure Grafana for Portworx Backup.
